Deep River is a musical adventure that will take you to places near and far through the sound of 200 women's voices. Based in Portsmouth, NH, Voices from the Heart has been giving women of all ages the opportunity to experience the joy of music through singing since 1995. Rather than reading sheet music to learn songs, members simply listen to Joanne Connolly for their parts, connecting in harmony to those around them. They blend their friendships, tears, laughter and voices in soulful and empowering songs. They truly are, as you the listener will hear, Voices from the Heart.

This collection of songs - spirited and strong - was recorded live during the 1998-200 performance years. Including traditional African, Indian, Russian, Celtic, African-American, Korean, Albanian, Bulgarian, Gospel, Folk and Contemporary pieces, Deep River transcends geographical boundaries and unites the performers with their audience through the common language of music.

Joanne Connolly, singer and music educator from York, Maine, is both the founder and director of Voices from the Heart. Inspired by cultures and sounds from around the world, she researches and then brings music to the chorus that speaks to the courage and beauty of the human soul. Once members understand the origins of these songs, they passionately bring them to life for their audiences. As a director with boundless enthusiasm, wit, sensitivity and compassion, Joanne teaches the women of Voices from the Heart to breathe, sing and dance to the rhythm of a song. She encourages them to experience the impact music has on their own lives.
